Workday ATS: Resume Tips and How Applications Get Screened

Workday doesn't show candidates a score, and applications are normally reviewed by a recruiter. What matters most is that the fields Workday fills in from your resume are correct, because those fields are what recruiters search and filter.

How to tell if an employer uses Workday

The application address contains myworkdayjobs.com, usually with the employer's name in front.

Common at: Large enterprises: many Fortune 500 companies, banks, retailers, universities and hospital groups.

What a Workday application looks like

You create a separate account for each employer, upload your resume, and Workday offers to autofill the application from it. You then step through your personal information, work experience, education and skills, the employer's application questions, voluntary disclosures and a final review.

What happens to your resume

The autofill reads job titles, employers, dates, education and skills into form fields. It often misreads multi-column layouts, dates in unusual formats and details placed in headers or footers. The recruiter sees both the structured fields and your attached resume.

Does Workday automatically reject resumes?

In most setups a person reviews applications. Automatic rejection mostly comes from application questions the employer marks as disqualifying, such as work authorization, a required licence or a minimum number of years of experience.

6 tips for a Workday application

  1. 1

    Check every autofilled field

Compare job titles, employers and dates with your resume before you continue. Fix anything the parser merged, dropped or put in the wrong box.

  2. 2

    Use one consistent date format

Month and year for every role, written the same way throughout (for example 03/2022 to 06/2024). Mixed formats are the most common cause of wrong dates in the form.

  3. 3

Fill in the skills section with the job's terms

Add the skills and tools from the job description using the same wording. This section is structured data a recruiter can filter on.

  4. 4

    Still attach a clean resume

Recruiters open the attachment. Upload a single-column, text-based PDF or .docx with standard section headings.

  5. 5

    Answer application questions carefully

These questions are the most common automatic filter. Read each one twice and answer accurately; a wrong click on work authorization can end the application.

  6. 6

Tailor it again for the next role

If you apply to another role at the same employer you can reuse your last application. Update the experience and skills so they match the new job description.
