10 CV Personal Statement Examples That Get Interviews (2026)

Real CV personal statement examples for different industries and career stages. Copy, adapt, and use these to write a personal statement that makes recruiters read on.

What Is a CV Personal Statement?

A CV personal statement (also called a CV profile or personal profile) is a 3–5 line summary at the top of your CV that tells a recruiter who you are, what you offer, and what you're looking for — in under 15 seconds.

It's the first thing a recruiter reads. If it's weak, vague, or generic, they skim the rest. If it's strong, it sets the tone for everything below it.

The Formula That Works

[Job title/level] + [years of experience] + [key skill or speciality] + [biggest achievement or USP] + [what you're seeking]

Not every statement needs all five. But most strong ones hit at least three.

5 Mistakes to Avoid

1. Starting with "I am..."

Never start your personal statement with "I". Start with your job title, role type, or a descriptor.

2. Using clichés

"Passionate", "hardworking", "team player", "excellent communicator" — delete them. Show the trait through an achievement instead.

3. Making it about what you want

Recruiters want to know what you bring, not what you're looking to gain. Lead with value.

4. Making it too long

3–5 lines maximum. If it runs to a paragraph, cut it.

5. Sending the same statement everywhere

Your personal statement should name or clearly imply the role you're targeting. Generic = rejection.
